The history of these iconic leather animals began in the 1920s, when the English leather goods factory Old Bill used leather scraps to make its first pig footstool and supplied it to Liberty department store in London. At the end of the 1950s, Dimitri Omersa took over the factory and developed other characteristic animals in addition to the pig, such as elephants, donkeys and rhinos, which were initially sold exclusively at Liberty and later also at Abercrombie & Fitch. To this day, a small team of experienced craftsmen in Lincoln make the animals from hand-dyed, waxed and polished English full-grain cowhide leather – each piece is unique.
