König Friedrich


1857 – Wien - 1941

Maler, Graphiker und Kunstgewerbler,Gründungsmitglied der Wiener Sezession 1897Schüler der Kunstgewerbeschule des österreichischen Museums und der Akademie. Anschließend Studien in München. Ursprünglich als Holzstecher für die Buchillustration tätig (Die österr.-ungar. Monarchie in Wort u. Bild). Zahlreiche Illusrationen für „Ver sacrum“. Weiters malte er Landschaften und figurale Kompositionen, fertigte aber auch Treibarbeiten im Sezessionsstil. Sein Gemälde „Der stille Teich“ wurde für die Wiener Mod. Gal. angekauft. Eine große Anzahl seiner Arbeiten besitzt die Sammlung Karl Wittgenstein, Zeichnungen die Albertina.

1857–Vienna–1941

 

Founder member of the Vienna Secession 1897, painter, graphic artist and arts and crafts designer. Student at the Austrian Museum School for Arts and Crafts and then at the Academy. Subsequently studied in Munich. Originally employed as wood engraver for book illustrations (The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in words and pictures). Founding member of the Secession. He made a lot of illustrations and wood cuts for ¨Ver Sacrum¨ In addition he painted numerous oil paintings and made hammered metal work in the Secessionist style. His work was shown regularly in the exhibitions in the Secession (Maskentanz / Masked Ball,1904, Die Gefangene / The Prisoner 1905, Abschied /Leave-taking 1910 etc.) as well as taking part in important international art exhibitions – the Große Kunstausstellung Dresden 1901, 1904; in the Munich Glass palace 1901, 1909. At the Rome International Exhibition in 1911, König was represented by a painting ¨Jägerinnen¨ (Amazones).
