Nach dem Besuch der Graphischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt studierte Zülow 1903–1906 an der Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule unter Myrbach, Stark und Czeschka. Ab 1908 war er Mitglied der Klimt-Gruppe. Er machte Entwürfe für die Wiener Werkstätte und war Lehrer an der Keramischen Lehrwerkstätte in Gmunden. Zülow nahm u. a. an der Internationalen Kunstausstellung in Rom sowie der Winterausstellung des Österreichischen Museums für Kunst und Industrie teil und erhielt 1925 die Goldene Medaille auf der Pariser Kunstgewerbeausstellung. Außerdem wurde ihm insgesamt vier Mal der Österreichische Staatspreis verliehen.

After attending the College of Graphics and Graphic Research, Zülow studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts from 1903 to 1906 as a student of Myrbach, Stark and Czeschka. From 1908 on, he was a member of the Klimt Group. He designed for the Wiener Werkstätte and taught at the ceramic studio workshop at Gmunden. Franz von Zülow took part in, amongst others, the International Art Exhibition in Rome and the winter exhibition of the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry (now MAK). In 1925, he won a gold medal at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Paris. In addition, he received the Austrian national award no less than four times.
