Prague 1852 – 1931 Košátky

Marie Kirschner (1852-1931) was a German-Bohemian glass artist and painter.

Alongside employees of Lötz and Bakalowits, Kirschner, as an outside artist, had the greatest influence on factory series production in the first decade of the 20th century.

century.

A favorable prerequisite for this was her family's friendship with the Spaun family.

From 1900 to 1914, Kirschner created the most extensive collection of her own products ever realized by a single artist at Lötz.

She also produced designs for normal factory production.

Her aim was to combine the highest possible aesthetics with practical utility to encourage constant use.

Characteristic of her work, which seems to anticipate the principles of functionalism, are geometric shapes and sometimes unusual handles, a subtle surface design and gradient colors.

With her glassware, Marie Kirschner made an internationally noteworthy contribution to the design of the turn of the century.
