Vienna 1868 – 1956 Krems a.d. Donau
The son of writer Emmerich Ranzoni studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and in Munich. In 1900 he was a member of the Künstlerhaus for a short time and from 1900–1907 of the Hagebund. After he again took up membership of the Künstlerhaus, Ranzoni became its president from 1919–1921 and from 1929–1937. During the period of the “Ständestaat” (Corporative State), he was a member of the Federal Councillor on Culture from 1934–1938, and in 1935 he also became a member of the Advisory Council on Culture of the City of Vienna. From 1944 on, he lived in Dürnstein and was active in preserving the town’s architecture. His oeuvre encompasses genre, architectural and landscape paintings. Hans Ranzoni the Elder was a member of the artists’ association “Wachauer Künstlerbund”.
